China has resumed purchasing soybeans from the United States in recent weeks, but the volumes remain below the 12 million-ton commitment agreed upon until the end of 2025. For agribusiness consultant Carlos Cogo, this movement does not change the central point of the market: Brazil remains the most competitive supplier. According to Cogo, the new trade understanding between Washington and Beijing establishes that China should also purchase 25 million tons of U.S. soybeans annually between 2026 and 2028. He highlights that the reduction in the U.S. import tariff from 34% to 13% makes this flow viable, but does not eliminate the tax difference.
