Starting January 1, the economic production of the Malvinas Islands (The Falklands) will be subject to tariffs to enter the European Union bloc, as part of the Brexit trade agreement between Great Britain and the EU. This could significantly impact the island's squid fishing-based economy. The agreement, which excludes Britain's overseas territories with which the monarchy has "special ties," was necessary to prevent an abrupt Brexit impact on coronavirus-hit economies. Argentina's Foreign Minister, Felipe Sola, has highlighted that the Falklands were not included in Brexit negotiations, supporting Argentina's position on its sovereignty rights as per the UN resolution 2065.
