Statistics Canada's latest model-based production estimates report a decline in crop conditions in Western Canada due to hot and dry weather, with revisions in the production forecasts for various crops for the 2024-25 season. Canola production is expected to decrease by 1.1% from the August estimate to 18.98 million tonnes, while wheat production is projected to increase by 4.1% to 34.29 million tonnes, largely due to an increase in durum production. Harvested barley area and crop are forecasted to decrease by 14.3% and 14.7%, respectively, but an increase in oat area is expected to result in a 14.2% increase in oat production. Pea and lentil production are also expected to see increases from the previous year, with pea production up by 21.1% and lentil production up by 44%. Soybean production is forecasted to increase by 3.1%, but corn production is projected to decrease by 1.6%.
