According to the Economic Report released by Emater/RS-Ascar this Thursday (30), the cultivation of cassava continues to expand in Rio Grande do Sul, with a focus on the regions of Santa Rosa and Soledade. In the Santa Rosa region, the crops planted earlier have already undergone the first mechanical weeding, an essential step to reduce competition with spontaneous plants for nutrients and soil water. According to the bulletin, the supply of roots available for commercialization remains low, which has sustained high prices in the local market. Minimally processed cassava is being sold for approximately R$ 10.00 per kilogram directly to the consumer. The peeled and frozen version is marketed by agribusinesses for R$ 7.50/kg, while the raw product, with the peel, is sold to the final consumer for values between R$ 7.50 and R$ 12.00/kg, depending on the degree of processing.
