The Turkish government has established a quota for cattle import for fattening at 600,000 head, a figure that may fluctuate throughout the year. The ESK, the country's milk and meat agency, will oversee the purchase and distribution of the cattle to breeders. In 2023, Turkey saw a 913% increase in live cattle purchases, primarily from Brazil, Uruguay, and the Czech Republic. The government has also eased quarantine requirements from the European Union, opting for increased blood test requirements instead. With price being a priority, Brazil and Uruguay may see an increased market share.
