Rapeseed cultivation in Poland has seen a significant increase, reaching a record 1.05 million hectares in the last season. This rise, along with improved yields, is due to advancements in rapeseed breeding, particularly in enhancing plant resistance to viral diseases and adapting to climate change. The breeding process has focused on developing varieties that can handle water shortages, build robust root systems, and resist oxidative stress. Recently, efforts have been made to enhance nitrogen use efficiency. Looking ahead, breeding is responding to the reduction in plant protection products by exploring varieties that can compensate for plant damage and regenerate faster after pest damage.
