Turkey, renowned as the world's leading cherry producer, has initiated its 2024 cherry harvest season in the Şehzadeler district of Manisa, starting a week earlier than the previous year due to an early spring. With 2.4 million cherry trees in this district alone, contributing to the country's total of 22 million, Turkey has auctioned its first harvested cherry for a symbolic 2 thousand TL. Aiming for a total harvest of 725 thousand tons, the country plans to export 100 thousand tons, targeting revenues of 250 million dollars. As the top producer, Turkey is now focusing on climbing the ranks in cherry exports, with Germany, the Russian Federation, and Austria as the leading importers in 2023. Efforts to penetrate new markets like China and India are underway, with a focus on sustainable and quality production to boost Turkey's global market share in cherry exports.
