Chile is preparing for a significant increase in its fruit exports for the 2024-2025 season, aiming to export 100 million boxes of cherries and send table grapes to the U.S. without fumigation. This surge in production will heighten the demand for agricultural workers from November to February. To meet this demand, the fruit sector is pushing for the swift implementation of the Mercosur Visa to facilitate temporary residence for Bolivian workers. A recent meeting between Chilean and Bolivian officials emphasized the need for faster visa processing and proposed strategies like job fairs and training programs. Since the Migration Agreement, 12,000 visas have been issued, with a request for 25,000 in 2024, of which 10,800 have been granted. The cherry season peaks between December and January, followed by the grape season from late February to April.
