In 2024, China achieved a record high cereal output of 706.50 million tonnes, an increase of 1.6% from the previous year, with rice, wheat, and corn being the main cereal varieties. The sown area for cereals also saw an increase, covering 119,319 thousand hectares. The yield increase contributed over 80% to the rise in output, with the grain yield per unit area increasing by 1.3%. The central government has continued to support grain production by increasing the minimum purchase price for wheat and early indica rice, and maintaining subsidies for corn and soybean farmers, leading to stabilized farmers' expectations for grain production income.
