China has announced that it will allow the import of fresh Serbian apples that meet certain phytosanitary requirements. Serbia, which produces over 550,000 metric tons of apples and pears annually, plans to export to new markets such as China, Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. However, in order to export to China, orchards must establish quality management and traceability systems, adhere to good agricultural practices, and undergo rigorous packaging procedures to ensure the apples are free of pests.
