China's National Health Commission is proposing changes to the national standards for Dairy Powder and Formulated Dairy Powder, seeking public feedback. The updates would apply to milk powder products from various milk sources, including cow, goat, and less common ones like yak, camel, horse, and donkey milk. The proposed changes include a higher dairy solids requirement, increasing from a minimum of 70% to 70% from the main raw materials alone. This move aims to ensure a higher protein content from dairy sources. Additionally, the standards' name would change to better reflect their scope, and companies may need to clearly label milk powder sources other than cow's milk. A public consultation period is open until June 30, with the Commission also considering updates to four other national standards related to food safety and nutrition.
