China has restarted beef exports from Brazil, ending a month-long suspension following Brazil's self-embargo after a case of atypical BSE was detected. The General Administration of Customs (GACC) of China has deemed Brazil's mad cow disease prevention and control system sufficient to meet China's quarantine and health standards, allowing the export of boneless beef from animals under 30 months of age effective March 23, 2023. The decision also includes the reinstatement of two suspended meat processors. The status of other meatpackers with export permits still pending is uncertain.
