China has suspended the certification of 51 Brazilian poultry processing plants. The measure comes amid a temporary suspension of Brazilian chicken meat and derivative exports to the Asian country, following the confirmation of an avian flu (highly pathogenic avian influenza) case in a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul. The list is available on the General Administration of Customs of China's (GACC) foreign food manufacturer registration platform, consulted by the real-time news system of the Estado Group. According to the GACC platform, the suspension has been in effect since Saturday, May 17. In total, 59 poultry meat and derivative processing plants in the country have had their certification suspended by the Chinese health authority. Of this total, eight poultry processing plants in Rio Grande do Sul that were authorized to sell to the country had already been suspended since July 17, 2024, when a Newcastle Disease case was confirmed in the state.
