The new cross-border designation of origin called 'Euskal sagardoa-Sidra del País Vasco-Cidre du Pays Basque-Euskal Sagarnoa' will include about 400 apple producers and 60 cider makers from Euskadi, Navarra, and the French Basque Country, making it the first cross-border DO in Europe. The goal is to have the common designation of origin in place by summer, with the first certified cider harvest expected in September-October 2024. The process to create this cross-border designation has involved collaboration and coordination between the Basque Government, Navarrese executive, and the Agglomeration Community of the French Basque Country, and will include a single regulation covering the types of apples and joint management.
