Dr. Mustafa Altuğ Atalay, the General Manager of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Turkey, visited a mussel farm near Balıkesir Koyun Island and stressed the importance of mussels in combating mucilage. He announced plans to increase the number of mussel farms in the Marmara Sea, which will help filter nearly 11 billion liters of water per hour. The mussels are farmed in areas that do not disturb holidaymakers and are inspected and analyzed by the Ministry. Atalay also warned against consuming raw fish, such as in sushi, during hot seasons due to the risk of spoilage.
