A meeting was held in Freetown on April 13 to discuss the Boosting Agriculture and Food Security (BAFS) project in Sierra Leone, which is focused on improving the cocoa, coffee, and cashew nut sectors. The meeting was attended by Solidaridad West Africa, Deutsche Welthungerhilfe (WHH), the Produce Monitoring Board (PMB) of Sierra Leone, and the Cocoa Coffee Cashew Platform (SLCCCP). The discussion aimed at addressing technical issues and challenges in these value chains and sustaining the platform to enhance the productivity, viability, and competitiveness of the sector. Topics covered included resource mobilization, sustainability of farmers' organizations, agricultural training, marketing and export, land challenges, and issues related to productivity, quality control, certification, and regulatory frameworks. The BAFS program has already supported 7,818 beneficiaries who cultivated about 5,182 hectares of land in 12 districts of Sierra Leone with improved cash crop varieties.
