The Ministry of Industry in Indonesia is working to enhance the global competitiveness of the country's cocoa processing industry and establish it as a sustainable sector. Leveraging Indonesia's potential to increase cocoa's added value through downstream policies, the ministry is also focusing on boosting cocoa bean productivity and consumption of processed cocoa products. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia's cocoa processing industry has significantly contributed to foreign exchange, with an export value of US$ 1.12 billion in 2020. The industry, which is the world's third largest processor of cocoa, exports its products to countries like the United States, the Netherlands, India, Germany, and China. The ministry is also promoting the use of eco-friendly technology in the cocoa industry and highlights the health benefits of processed cocoa products, including chocolate, which are known to be high in antioxidants.
