Brazil: Coconut production in Codevasf irrigation projects has a production value of R$72 million

Coconut production in public irrigation projects of the São Francisco and Parnaíba Valleys Development Company (Codevasf) has reached an average productivity of approximately 40 tons per hectare. The value obtained by farmers from the sale of production — that is, the gross production value (GBP) — reached in 2020 the mark of R$72.3 million. In the year, 152 thousand tons of coconut were produced in the irrigation projects. “The consumption of green coconut water in Brazil is significant. It is a drink that has health benefits, rich in vitamins, minerals and other substances that help the body to function. The beverage bottling agro-industries that exist today in the São Francisco Valley strengthen fruit production and increase the income of producers in the region”, assesses the director of the Management Area of Irrigation Projects at Codevasf, Luís Napoleão Casado.
