Swiss granum monitors have found low to medium levels of deoxynivalenol (DON) mycotoxin in nearly every grain corn sample analyzed from the 2021 harvest, with an average of 0.45 mg / kg. The level of fumonisins is low, but higher than 2020, and the zearalenone (ZEN) level is higher than the previous five years, averaging 0.061 mg / kg. These contamination levels are important for animal feed, with guidance values varying by animal species. Swiss granum has been monitoring for mycotoxins in bread wheat, barley, triticale, and grain corn after harvest since 2007, using a three-tier approach: prevention recommendations, pre-harvest risk assessment, and post-harvest monitoring.
