[Korean Farmers' News, Reporter Kim Young-min] Due to frequent autumn rains and high humidity, the occurrence of cabbage soft rot disease is increasing. When spraying control agents, it is necessary to avoid repeated use of the same agent and refrain from planting cabbage in the same field consecutively, among other precautions. According to the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science, soft rot disease, caused by bacteria, shows symptoms of tissue wilting and decay when the bacteria infect through the leaf stalks or wounds. If soft rot disease is severe, it results in poor formation and reduced yield. Particularly, it spreads rapidly in fields with poor water drainage or during short rainy periods when consecutive planting is done.
