The National Experimental Commission-CSN for durum wheat has commenced its operations in Italy, marking a significant step towards the establishment of the Single National Commission-CUN for the crop. This development is anticipated to enhance collaboration within the durum wheat supply chain. Italy, being the leading EU producer of the crop, sees a decline in production, while the European Union is grappling with a decrease in overall durum wheat figures. The CUN is expected to serve as a forum for producer-transformer dialogue, with the goal of establishing a national tool to determine indicative prices and market trends in a transparent manner. This initiative aligns with the 'FRUCLASS' system, aimed at providing real-time quality and quantity data on the national production of durum wheat.
