Thai maize farmers are facing a crisis as imported products and a decrease in global maize prices have led to a surge in imports, particularly from neighboring countries. The situation is worsened by China's decision to allow the cultivation of genetically modified worms (GMO) varieties of corn, which may make it a major corn exporter in the future. The article highlights the urgent need for Thai farmers to increase yield per rai and reduce costs to compete, with around 4.06 thousand households potentially facing the loss of their career in maize farming.
