In October, Brazil experienced a 15.4% increase in dairy imports, totaling 12,200 tons, due to the scarcity of domestic raw materials and a decrease in average prices, particularly in powdered milk. Imports of this product rose by 22% to 6,400 tons, with Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay being the main suppliers. Despite a slight decrease, cheese imports made up 25% of total purchases. However, exports saw a decline, falling 15.6% from the previous month. The outlook for November is ominous as international dairy derivative prices are expected to rise, exacerbating the trade balance deficit, which stood at US$ 37.5 million in October, an 18% increase from the previous month.
