According to the Korea Fisheries and Farmers' Newspaper, distant water fishery catch volume has decreased by approximately 30% compared to the previous year. The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute's 'Distant Water Fishery Production Trend for April 2025' revealed that the cumulative catch volume from January to April was 130,093 tons, a 30.2% decrease from the same period last year (186,483 tons) and a 17.6% decrease from the five-year average (157,958 tons). By fishing method, tuna purse seine catches were 63,987 tons, down 32.7% from the previous year and 22.4% from the average, while tuna longline catches were 12,775 tons, a 25% decrease from last year and a 2% decrease from the average.
