Pork production in the EU-27 to increase by 2% in the first 6 months of 2024

Production increased in most EU countries, with Poland seeing the biggest increase of 80,000 tonnes, reaching 934,000 tonnes in the first half of 2024. Germany is the second largest pork producer in the EU, reaching nearly 2.1 million tonnes, up nearly 19,000 tonnes; Denmark's output increased by 2% to 673,000 tonnes. However, Spain (the largest producer in the EU) decreased by more than 27,000 tonnes to 2.46 million tonnes. Overall, the increase in production was due to increased slaughter numbers. The number of slaughtered pigs in the EU-27 in the first half of 2024 increased by 122,000 heads, reaching nearly 110 million heads. Poland's slaughtered pigs increased by 634,000 heads (7%) to 9.7 million heads, Germany increased by 46,000 heads to 21.9 million heads.
