The European Commission has pledged to robustly defend the EU's dairy sector after China announced an anti-subsidy investigation into European dairy products. This investigation follows the EU's imposition of a surcharge on Chinese electric vehicles and could result in surtaxes on EU dairy products if unfair practices are found. The probe, which may last up to 18 months, is part of a series of Chinese investigations into EU goods, including wine spirits and pork products. Last year, the EU exported €1.68 billion worth of dairy products to China. China has also taken the issue to the WTO, accusing the EU's tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles of being politically motivated.
