European egg, poultry, and rabbit meat producers are calling on the EC to strengthen the labeling of food origin so that consumers truly know what they are buying and consuming. The message comes after Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the new "Buy European Food" campaign to promote European foods during her State of the Union address. Ursula von der Leyen: Farmers have the right to receive a fair price for the food they produce Representatives of these sectors noted that for the campaign to be effective, consumers must have access to clear information about the origin of the products they buy. They recalled that current EU rules require labeling only for fresh chicken meat and eggs. There is no such obligation for processed products, such as snacks, pizzas, or ready meals, as well as for rabbit meat in all its forms – fresh, chilled, frozen, or processed.
