The European Union has approved Morocco as a country to export honey, which was announced at the International Agricultural Forum in Meknes. This is significant as the EU is one of the largest honey producers but still imports about 40% of its consumption. Moroccan honey producers will now have access to the EU's largest honey market, which is estimated to be worth over 10 billion dirhams. This decision is particularly important for Morocco's beekeeping sector, which is diverse and plays a key socio-economic role, with over 36,000 active beekeepers. The EU Ambassador to Morocco viewed this as a win-win situation, highlighting the contribution of Moroccan honey producers to both consumer supply and agricultural biodiversity in Morocco.
