Hairy crabs, a luxury seafood item available in Hong Kong and Shanghai from October to December, have seen a significant price increase due to a decreased catch in China and other factors such as the USD exchange rate and increased input costs. Despite the high prices, demand remains strong among the rich. However, consumers need to be cautious as the market is also flooded with low-quality products labeled as hairy crabs. The official imports of hairy crabs to Vietnam are limited due to strict requirements for grading and certification, leading to a supply shortage and driving up prices further.
