The Vietnam Coconut Association is working on establishing standards for the exploitation and business of coconut wood products, with plans to submit regulatory documents to relevant ministries. The association is also developing a mechanism for capital incentives for investment in coconut processing technology and supporting farmers to switch to sustainable farming models. The coconut industry has the potential to exceed 1 billion USD in export value in the next two years, with over 90 products and about 200 types of food created using coconut tree raw materials. However, the industry faces challenges such as decreasing domestic prices for raw coconuts and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta, which reduces productivity and output.
