In 2023, Russia achieved a record in agricultural exports, with over 540 thousand tons of dried chickpeas and a significant increase in pea exports, reaching the third position globally behind Canada and Australia. The main importers of these legumes were Türkiye, Pakistan, Egypt, China, Turkey, and Spain. The growth in legume exports is largely due to the declining profitability of wheat cultivation and the rising global demand. Furthermore, the area dedicated to chickpea cultivation in Russia exceeded 492 thousand hectares, with the Saratov region leading. This surge in legume production is anticipated to reach 700 thousand tons by 2030, generating approximately $450 million in revenue.
