The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with INIFAP, is developing new varieties of chickpea for Baja California South to increase production and quality, benefiting small and medium-scale farmers. The project, funded by a mixed fund, aims to improve the yield and quality of chickpea grain by at least 15%, reducing water usage and agrochemical needs. The research includes a Molecular Biology Laboratory and involves training, dissemination events, and scientific publications. The technology package includes disease forecasting models, forage chickpea management, and promotion of basic seed use. The project also focuses on updating the technological package for producing both white chickpea and forage, covering various aspects from sowing dates to pest control.
