Without rebuilding its own livestock, Poland will be fully dependent on meat imports in a few years, just as it was previously on gas imports, point out farmers. How to finally achieve this? The Nationwide Farmers' Protest (OOPR), a group uniting independent, non-partisan strike committees from across Poland, proposes solutions for rebuilding animal husbandry in Poland within its presented demands. The necessity of this rebuilding has been mentioned for a long time, and now also in the context of the grain market, where prices will remain low without an increase in livestock numbers. OOPR points out in its post that Poland was still one of the largest livestock producers in Europe in 2010 – with 14.9 million pigs, including 1.4 million sows.
