Due to the impact of a monsoon, which has damaged onion and tomato crops in Pakistan, the government is considering importing these vegetables from India, or potentially from Dubai via India. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has exempted these imports from taxes and duties until the end of 2022 to help lower prices. The Prime Minister has urged for immediate measures to maintain a steady supply of these vegetables. The Punjab Chief Secretary has also directed officials to control food prices and to encourage the import of tomatoes and onions to address the supply-demand gap.
