A study by the National Rating Agency (NRA) predicts a 5-7% decrease in per capita fish consumption in Russia by 2023 due to economic challenges. Despite these expectations, Russia remains a self-sufficient fish producer and net exporter, with around 20 million tons exported in 2022. The NRA anticipates a shift in consumer preferences away from salmon due to high prices and a rise in salmon catches, which could lessen pressure on prices. The agency also emphasizes the need for improving the efficiency of fish export and advises developing more deep processing facilities. To combat fish product falsification, the Association of Retail Companies and the Fish Union will monitor product quality and comply with declared characteristics through data exchange and consumer research.
