Global warming is causing an increase in the number of Okhotsk herring, but this is causing problems for fishing companies as the herring are no longer in the expected locations for fishing, leading to failed fishing seasons and significant financial losses. The companies are now relying on salmon approaches to offset some of the costs, but the financial situation is dire and transport accessibility in the Okhotsk region is also a problem. Additionally, renegotiating fishing area contracts and the end of the electricity tariff equalization program in 2028 are adding to the financial pressures on the industry.
