In April 2024, the Biobío Region of Chile experienced a significant decrease in fish landings by 34.5%, totaling 177,744 tons. The region, which contributes 46.8% to the national landing, saw a drop in both artisanal and industrial subsectors. The artisanal subsector experienced a drastic 74.9% decrease, primarily due to a lower landing of Common Sardine, while the industrial subsector saw a 37.5% increase, driven by a higher landing of horse mackerel. From January to April 2024, overall landings saw an 18.2% contraction.
