Outbreaks of Aujeszky's Disease (AD), detected at the beginning of this year in local pig farms, raised alarms in that productive sector due to fears of its economic impact. Caused by a virus from the Herpesviridae family, it can lead to reproductive failures, deaths in piglets, and a decrease in the weight gain of animals.
This is what motivated the Argentine Pig Federation (FPA) to work with Senasa in the development of a sanitary plan aimed at controlling and eradicating it, which was initially expected to be implemented before mid-year.
"We will go out to search for the virus. It is very important to identify in which areas and establishments it is in order to proceed with its sanitation and avoid the spread of the disease, which so far is controlled," the Federation indicated in May.
