France is the second largest producer of durum wheat in Europe, but two-thirds of its production is exported, mainly to Italy, and comes back in the form of pasta. The country has seen a decrease in areas dedicated to durum wheat crop and has launched a sovereignty plan to revive the sector. France consumes more chicken than pork, with nearly one in two chickens consumed being imported. The country also faces a trade deficit due to importing more butter than it exports, despite being the second largest European producer of cow's milk. Additionally, approximately half of the fruits and vegetables consumed in France are imported.
