In a notable shift towards enhancing its domestic agricultural processing capabilities, Ukraine has processed 1 million tons of rapeseed from its 2023 harvest, representing 23.3% of the total yield. This move underscores a strategic pivot from primarily exporting raw agricultural materials to focusing on the domestic production and export of higher-value products such as rapeseed oil, which saw a record export volume of 400,000 tons between July 2023 and March 2024 to key markets including China, the EU, Malaysia, and Singapore. The 'Ukroliyaprom' association highlights this trend as a crucial development direction for Ukraine's oil and fat industry, aiming to expand processing capacities not only for sunflower seeds but also for soybeans and rapeseeds. Despite mixed projections for oilseed production in the 2024/25 fiscal year, with expectations of increased soybean output and a potential decrease in rapeseed production, the focus on domestic processing marks a significant strategic shift for the country's agricultural sector.
