In 2020, Brazil's fruit imports experienced an 11% decrease, totaling US $ 548 million, with Peru's contribution falling by 41% to only US $ 2.25 million, which is 0.40% of the total. This resulted in Peru dropping two positions in the supplier rankings, now at 16th place, as both Israel and Tunisia surpassed it. The import of key fruits such as grapes and blueberries saw significant drops in volume and value compared to 2019. Grapes import volume fell by 57% and value by 52%, while blueberries experienced a 4% drop in volume but a 19% drop in value. The price of lemon peel also saw a dramatic decrease, dropping by 72% compared to the previous year.
