Georgia has seen a significant increase in its fresh kiwi exports to Japan, with a 69% rise in the first 10 months of 2024 compared to the entire 2023, making it one of the top four kiwi suppliers to Japan. However, the exports do not come close to the volumes from the leader, New Zealand. Despite the success, a scandal has emerged regarding the sale of kiis from Iran as Georgian produce, which could potentially ban Georgian suppliers from the Japanese market. This scandal involves a private Georgian company, Nergeta, which buys a significant portion of kiwi from the Georgian Kiwi Growers Association and exports it to Japan and Germany.
