The annual survey by the Zhejiang Zhoushan International Agricultural Products Trading Center and the Global Seafood Alliance forecasts a growth in production of key species in the fish and shrimp industry. Freshwater fish, Atlantic salmon, sea bass, and sea bream are expected to grow by varying percentages, with shrimp production seeing a steady annual growth of 2%. However, the industry faces challenges such as trade restrictions and increased tariffs. Despite these challenges, Norway and Chile are expected to resume growth in Atlantic salmon production, and Vietnam is expected to achieve 4% growth in tilapia production. Nevertheless, market prices, aquafeed costs, and market access are concerns for the aquaculture sector in 2025.
