The Malaysian government is planning to review the necessity of continuing subsidies for chicken breeders and egg producers in June, due to the subsidy allocation exceeding RM2 billion. Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, stated that the review is to determine if the subsidy is necessary, with the funds potentially being directed towards more urgent areas. The Minister also requested the Department of Veterinary Services to perform detailed checks on eggs imported from India to ensure they meet the required standards, following concerns from the Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations about the sale of low-quality or expired eggs.
