Dak Lak province in Vietnam is set to become a major player in the global durian market by 2024, with an expected 35,000 hectare cultivation area and a production of over 300,000 tons. The province aims to officially export frozen durian, a move that could boost its export volume by 70-80%. Currently, Vietnam exports durian to 23 countries, with China being the largest market. The province is investing in facilities for processing and freezing durians, but there is a need for upgrading processing infrastructure to meet export standards. There are currently 37 freezing facilities in the province, but many do not meet the necessary standards for export. There is a call for overall regulation by ministries and specialized agencies to provide market information to businesses, while the Dak Lak Durian Association plans to disseminate the Protocol and train members and producers on the required standards and criteria.
