(Changwon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jeong-hoon = Gyeongnam Province announced on the 28th that it will propose to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to recognize the damages caused by persimmon anthrax and fall cabbage wilt disease during the harvest season as agricultural disasters after conducting an investigation.
The persimmon anthrax, which causes black spots and rot, and the fall cabbage wilt disease, which causes the leaves to wilt, occurred during the frequent rains in the fall harvest season from September to October.
To receive national financial support for agricultural disasters, the damage area per city or county must exceed 50 hectares.
The province will investigate the damage areas of persimmon anthrax and fall cabbage wilt disease in 18 cities and counties by the 31st and propose to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to recognize the agricultural disaster.
If recognized as an agricultural disaster, the government can support farmers with recovery costs such as pesticide expenses and replacement planting costs.
The province explained that even if the damage area does not meet the requirements for national financial support, it will support the farmers with provincial and municipal funds to minimize the burden on farmers.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs recently recognized the rice false smut that occurred nationwide, including in Gyeongnam, as an agricultural disaster and decided to support pesticide expenses and replacement planting costs after investigating the damage area.
