The protected geographical indication 'Szeged mirror carp' refers to live fish and its meat farmed from the state-recognized carp species of Szeged mirror carp. Its breeding area is located north of the city of Szeged on Lake Fehér, as a cohesive fishpond system of 141 ha, based on the natural catchment basin of the Southern Great Plain. The abdominal side of the “Szeged mirror carp” is yellow, its scales are mirrored in the back row. The flesh is reddish in color, crumbly, high in protein, low in fat and tasty.
