The European Union has protected the name 'Szeged mirror carp' for Hungarian freshwater fish, making it the fourth such name from Hungary to be protected. The fish, farmed in Lake Fehér north of Szeged, is known for its unique characteristics and taste. The breeding area spans 141 ha and is part of the natural catchment basin of the Southern Great Plain. The fish is crumbly, high in protein, and low in fat, and is popular for filleting. It has been bearing the 'Traditions-Flavors-Regions' (HÍR) trademark since 2011.
