The EU Commission's MARS report has lowered its forecasts for EU crop yields due to varying weather conditions, including overly wet and overly dry conditions in different parts of the bloc. The predicted average EU soft wheat yield has been reduced from 5.92 t/ha in May to 5.86 t/ha this month, in line with the five-year average. Yield prospects for winter barley, rapeseed, maize, and sunflowers have also been reduced. Wet weather in France and Germany has slowed crop growth and field work, while dry weather in Hungary and Romania has negatively impacted winter crop prospects. A forthcoming heatwave is expected to help winter crops ripen in France and Germany, but could have a strong negative impact on spring crops in eastern Europe and the Balkans.
