The article introduces two new initiatives, the Presidential Rural Horticulture Scheme and the Presidential Poultry Production scheme, designed to promote climate smart agriculture, food self-sufficiency, and increase earnings for smallholder farmers in Zimbabwe. The horticulture scheme aims to distribute 10 fruit trees to each of the 1.8 million rural households at no cost, with a goal of generating additional income of US$600 to US$1,000 per household through sales. The poultry scheme will distribute 10 free range chickens to the same households to boost food self-sufficiency and create a potential for export markets. These schemes are part of the government's efforts to promote ecological restoration, employment, and sustainable agriculture.
