The novel issue of Hortifruti Brasil magazine delves into the pandemic's influence on the exports of eight fruits that constitute 75% of Brazil's total fruit shipments, namely bananas, lemons and limes, apples, papayas, mangoes, watermelons, melons, and grapes, for the period January to September 2020. The article highlights mango exports as a bright spot, with both the European Union and the United States showing a growing demand for the fruit, which is being increasingly consumed as a staple rather than an exotic treat in these regions. Despite initial concerns about decreased demand due to the pandemic and its impact on income levels, the retail market sector has remained relatively unaffected. The first half of the year saw robust mango exports, contributing to stable domestic prices, even with reduced demand from Brazilians. Furthermore, Brazil's strategy of harvesting mangoes throughout the year has enabled it to capitalize on export opportunities, particularly as other producing countries have experienced production and logistics challenges due to the pandemic.
